“The Clarions have gone from strength to strength since I first heard them and particularly in the last year they have developed their ‘the art of song’ craft. They are one of the most important bands in the North East at the moment but you have to see them live to understand what I’m talking about” ~ Martin Metcalfe, The Filthy Tongues, & Goodbye Mr McKenzie.
The Clarions, a three-piece alternative rock band from the North East England, who first started gigging as a duo in late 2014. They developed their own sound over the following year, a unique blend of alternative and traditional rock. Think Velvet Underground meets Patti Smith, with nods to Nick Cave and Galaxie 500!. Adam joined the band on drums in early 2016 bringing the final dimension to The Clarions music.
The Clarions have performed across the North East and in London working with promoter Absent Kelly. 2016 saw the band playing at the Surf Cafe Primavera Festival; five gigs at The Cluny (one of the main music venues in the North East), including a headline gig as well as supporting The Filthy Tongues and Mik Artistik’s Ego Trip; and performances supporting the Oxjam Charity
Their demo EP, ‘Avoid Your Future Self’, was released in April 2016, with a launch party at a packed Cluny 2 in Newcastle to celebrate. Picked up by the BBC Introducing North East team, the EP got a great review in NE Volume magazine.
Hard work and passion for their music has resulted in exciting times ahead, with Ugly Man Records (Elbow, I Am Kloot, Man From Delmonte) looking at releasing their future music, and a three-way tour with Liverpool band Cascadia Fault Line and Stoke on Trent’s CAMENS in the autumn.
